Horseback Safari

Horses Safari - Crossing Water

We are passionate about horses and have had many years of riding experience. We have competed or taught in various disciplines including Dressage, Show-jumping, Carriage Driving, Endurance and more recently Polo. Many people are enchanted by horses but have never had the opportunity to take formal lessons. With an experienced guide and a well-trained horse you'll be surprised at what you can achieve!

Horses in Nature

Our horse riding safaris are suitable for both experienced riders and complete beginners.

There are always a minimum of two guides on safari so the experienced riders have fun whilst not putting beginners under any pressure.

Out on safari you can expect to see wildlife from a different viewpoint. The wild animals see horse and rider as another animal ... a very strange one… but still an animal! You can stroll right next to a giraffe or let your horse munch grass in the zebra herd. These are magical moments you cannot get on a safari vehicle.

Safety is our top priority

We provide comfortable lightweight helmets and half-leg chaps. Well-fitting safety equipment is a must for a safe, enjoyable ride! Although we challenge you to improve your riding skills, we are constantly aware of your need to feel safe.

Horses Safari with Giraffe

Our horses are friendly, well trained and obedient.

Every horse is very special to us. We personally train and ride all our horses - they're part of our family! They are super-responsive, obedient, loving and happy animals.

Horseback Africa is situated on our own private game reserve.

On safari you will see vast open spaces and pure unspoiled nature. There are no tourist cars or busses! You can view zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, kudu, impala, waterbuck, hartebeest, blesbok, and many other wild animals from very close by. We never disturb the wild animals and they are accordingly not afraid of the horse riders.

We only take out small groups – Maximum 10 riders.

This ensures that all our guests get a safe, exclusive and personal experience.

Only got one day ?

Do a Horse-riding Safari in the morning, lunch and Lion Tour in the afternoon.

Maximum 10 pax.

The full-day experience starts with a delicious cup of filter coffee or a selection of different teas.

Every participant is then interviewed to get the rider onto the correct horse for their level of riding experience.

After this, your guide does a “pre-flight briefing” which is a short lecture on safety and basic natural horsemanship. The riders then walk up to the stables where they are fitted with hard helmets and chaps for safety.

The ride takes place on Horseback Africa’s own private game reserve, which has a large selection of wild animals including giraffe, zebras, blue wildebeest, ostriches, and many species of antelope. Each rider is encouraged towards improving their horse riding skills - irrespective of their level of experience. Beginners learn to do the sitting trot, rising trot and even their first canter. Advanced riders are encouraged to enjoy smaller jumps, sand banks and riding through water and if they have proven ability, even a flat-out gallop along safe strenches. You spend about 2 hours in the saddle.

On returning to the lodge, the riders then enjoy a wonderful wood-fired pizza lunch at the Wild Horse restaurant.

Your lion tour guide starts with a short safety and information briefing. Most people are not aware that the African Lion is in real danger of becoming extinct in the near future. This fact and the measures we are taking to reverse this trendis highlighted in this presentation. After that it's time to head out on the lion walk! The lions run free, scampering up trees, playing in the river, stalking and practicing their hunting skills on each other. The young lions see the guide as their dominant male figure, and the participants as other members of the pride. After the walk you return to feed the adult lions and to learn about their habitats and behavior. Finally you return to the lodge garden to interact with the little cubs or any other rehabilitation animal we may have at the time. This is highly informative and educational experience that you will never forget.

The tour ends between 4pm and 4:30pm.

All tours and activities are available from Tuesday to Sunday.
